If you’re a collector of memorabilia, figurines or antiques, you’ll know that it can be hard to find a way to store and display your ever-growing collection. Even small items can take up room if you have lots of them!

Want to find a way to not only neatly house your collection but proudly showcase it too? Read on for our top tips on how to display collections without looking cluttered or messy.

Where To Display Your Collection?

If your collection started small but has outgrown its current location, it’s time to find a new dedicated area in your home for it. Here are some of the best options to suit all kinds of memorabilia and collections.

Glass Display Cabinets

If your space allows for it, store and display your collections or memorabilia in a glass cabinet. Perfect for trophies, sports memorabilia and bulkier items, free-standing glass cabinets are a fantastic option for showing off your collection, and they also ensure it’s out of harm’s way.

Whether your collectables have a high monetary value, or you simply want to keep your treasured items dust-free and protected, a glass display cabinet is a perfect option to keep them safe.

Keeping your collection in a glass cabinet gives it its own place in your home, acting as a focal point in your hallway or room. Plus, it’ll reduce the space it will take up elsewhere on your surfaces.

Tabletop Display Cases

Or, if your collection is made up of small items, a tabletop display cabinet can be a great option. Instead of having your collectables or memorabilia lined up on a surface looking cluttered, keep them neat and organised in a display case instead.

A countertop display cabinet will still enable you to showcase your items, but like a freestanding shelf, it will have the added benefit of keeping them free from dust and damage.

Wooden Display Racks

Alternatively, keep your small keepsakes and collectables on a wooden display rack. If you have lots of little ornaments or figurines, this is a great way to house them and add some personality to your space.

You can prop a wooden display rack on your study desk, or drill one into the wall, so your collection is eye-level. If you want to brighten up your room and add a colourful backdrop for your collection, you can paint a wooden display rack too.

Wall Shelving

Another great option if you’re deciding how to display memorabilia is wall shelves. Wall shelves help you make the most of your vertical space, so if you don’t have a lot of spare floor room, but you have bulky items to display, they’re ideal.

Installing wall shelves along the length of a wall is a great way to create a focal point in a room too. You may find one long shelf along the wall will do or stagger them one above the other.

Alternatively, an effective way to save space and keep your valuable items out of the way (particularly if you have children or pets) is installing a high shelf close to the ceiling.

A Gallery Wall

If your collection includes frameable items, why not create a gallery wall? This is perfect for posters and newspaper clippings, or smaller items like stamps and postcards.

Gallery walls are a great way to decorate a room and showcasing your collection will give it a personal touch. A gallery wall works well as a feature wall in a living room, office, or along a stairway.

Tips on Displaying Items

Knowing where to keep your items is one thing, but it’s also important to know how to display collections without looking cluttered.

  1. To keep things looking organised, shelve your items in some kind of order – whether that’s height, colour or category.
  2. Avoid colour clashing by placing complementing colours and tones next to each other.
  3. Store bulky, tall items at the back and smaller items at the front of your displays.
  4. Place items in groups; for example, a small, medium and large vase as a trio.
  5. Don’t overcrowd items; leave enough space between them to avoid a cluttered look.

With any one of these ideas, you can proudly display your collection in your home and ensure it looks neat and well-curated. For more options, browse our full range of display cabinets here at Displaysense, and check out our storage and shelving solutions.
